AMICUS CURIAE
In keeping with MACDL’s consistent support for constitutional funding for the Missouri State Public Defender System and respect for the constitutional rights of all, MACDL filed an amicus brief in support of adequate funding by the legislature—coupled with legislative self-discipline on the application of the criminal sanction—as the means to resolve the Missouri State Public Defender System’s current fiscal crisis. Case remains pending before the Missouri supreme Court.

LAWYER ASSISTANCE STRIKE FORCE
As a benefit of membership, members have the opportunity to consult with MACDL`s Strike Force if they are threatened in any way for providing legal representation to a client in a criminal proceeding and are subpoenaed to provide information, cited for contempt, being disqualified from the representation, or who become the subject of a bar complaint.

The strength of our organization is in its membership.
I hope that you will use this web site to call an officer, board member, or fellow member whenever you need help with a particular question or problem, whether it`s how to approach the judge in a particular county or how to phrase a point of error on appeal. You should also call upon the organization when you feel an amicus brief would be helpful to your case, or if you are threatened with contempt for providing effective assistance of counsel. In that situation, MACDL`s strike force of experienced attorneys will represent you without charge. If you are interested in participating in these functions, please let us know.
The job of a criminal defense attorney is often a lonely and frustrating one. We are placed in the position of advocating for person for whom many citizens have little respect. Many of us practice alone or in small offices. We need each other! Our organization can become stronger and more effective if every member makes sure that others are aware of MACDL and the benefits of membership. Every member get a member!
